Blog Name 'n Stuffs

Hey Kids ~

In an attempt to get this thing up and running, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into the blog name. My questions are these:

1. Should we actually give this ride a proper name? Southside Ride, East Pernt Ride or something like that?

2. Is the blog helpful or should we just send out mass emails each week?

3. Any news on the usual Silk Sheets ride on New Years am? If you were to ride from the school and meet up with the group at the pee stop, you'd need to leave by 8:15. There 'n back will give you about a 5 hour jaunt or so depending upon which convoluted way the ride leader decides to go. One never knows from ride to ride.

I think we'll have a few more folks this weekend since people are back from vacation. Looking at a 9am start unless there's a majority vote for later. The Falcons play at 1pm, so that's why I say 9.

Lastly, as a couple of folks have done, you can select to "follow this blog", which I believe will send you a message whenever there's a new posting. Might be easier for you than logging in every so often to see if there's any new news.

Saturday 12/27/08 Ride

Saturday is a go. Good temps early or later, so I'm open to whatever start time wins out. 9? 10? Chime in with your preference.

Sunday looks crappy. All of next week looks great. I'll ride any day, but would rather wait til around noon for the temps to rise.

Upcoming Rides

This weekend looks somewhat promising with warm temps and small chances of showers. Saturday will be a definite go, likely a 10am start unless the majority of folks wanna start earlier. We will employ the "Ricky rule" which states you cannot vote for a specified time if you don't plan to actually make the ride. Additionally, if you are going to wuss out, you must be more creative in your wussing out than "my phone won't text or make calls, so I can't ride." This will now be known as the "JB rule" hence forward.

Maybe we'll try the ride in reverse on Saturday...

Tuesday 12/23/08 Ride

Ride will be at 10am in tomorrow. Temp at 10am = 34 degrees. 11am = 37 degrees. Noon = 41. Basically, all are above freezing, but none of them warm and there isn't a wide degree of temp ranges, so let's giter over n dun with.

Leaving FROM THE SCHOOL at 10am. No 15-minute rule like last week. Just call someone if you're gonna be a couple minutes late. More than that....have a good ride. :-) See ya tomorrow.

Inaugural Ride Follow-up

First ride went off without a hitch. Great group of 8 guys. After 15 minutes of rolling through scenic neighborhoods with minimal stops, we went the next 2 1/2 hours or so with little to no slowing or stopping. This made for some crispy legs, especially for those poor souls who rode from home. We rode 2 abreast and at a pace that put pressure on the legs, but was far from race-pace. Total ride time ended up being about 3 1/2 hours.

Weather permitting, a ride will likely leave from the school this Tuesday, Dec 23rd, time TBD.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Welcome

Well, it seems we have a number of folks interested in starting up an organized ride comprised of people who want a diversion from the crappy Tucker loop that stops every couple of minutes. This will be a more intimate group bringing together people who probably wouldn't ordinarily ride together. I think it will be more enjoyable and the quality of our training will be increased as well.

Feel free to bring anyone I may have left off the initial email list, but please do not invite folks who will have trouble keeping up. The roads we'll be riding contain very few stops to allow people to catch back up. There are shortcuts, but we won't be stopping and waiting unless someone flats or crashes.

Other bonuses include us being able to move the start time due to weather conditions. I've set up this blog so I can post the ride/time, then we can all submit a comment regarding who's going to show and if we should move the time.

At this time, we'll start from a school near my house in East Point. Go to Google Maps and plug in these coordinates 33.695053,-84.465358. I'll post a MapMyRide link of the route soon.

We had a lot of responses from people saying they were game for this coming Saturday. Should we start at 9 or 10? I think most of us are usually on our bikes by 9 to ride to a ride, so maybe 9 would be best and to keep the wives happy (if you have them). Ride will be around 3 - 3 1/2 hours, so ride to the school if you want more mileage. We can discuss making the ride longer as well. We got it like that!

So....chime in, if you're going to make it this Saturday. Hope to see everyone there!
